Cables and housing are crucial for well-running shifting and braking systems. Worn out or poorly run cabling can make braking and shifting inconsistent or less effective. Learn how to maintain, replace, and upgrade your cabling systems for best performance. Some coverage of hydraulic systems will be included.
Note: this class is cancelled.
This class will focus on streetwise urban riding in Seattle. Please bring your bike and be prepared for a one hour session in the shop going over bike safety and King County Laws. The second session will be an on the road ride from The Bikery to Garfield High School, a five mile route that will give participants a taste of the biking conditions around Seattle as well as a chance to practice what they learned in the classroom. We look forward to riding with you!
Stopping is good! Join us for this class on brake maintenance and repair. This class will covery brake theory and brake maintenance. Bring your own bike, as after some theory there will be time and space to practice what you learned about brake maintenance on your own bike!

Bearings form the greasy, rotating heart of your bike's transmission system! You can find them hidden away in the center of wheels, cassettes, pedals, bottom brackets, and headsets. Poorly greased or damaged bearings and races will slow your bike down, and can lead to more costly repairs further on. Learn how to diagnose, calibrate, and service (or repack) different bearing sets. The main focus of this class will be on repacking cup-and-cone bearings, but some coverage of sealed bearings and techniques for opening up stuck and stubborn assemblies will be included.
We have a class coming up at beginning of next month! Here’s a course description from instructor Simon: “Cables and housing are crucial for well-running shifting and braking systems. Worn out or poorly run cabling can make braking and shifting inconsistent or less effective. Learn how to maintain, replace, and upgrade your cabling systems for best performance. Some coverage of hydraulic systems will be included.”
Come learn about 1x, hydraulic, electronic, XD, dub and other things to know about when assembling the modern bicycle!
Our first class of 2024 is just around the corner! “Zen and the art of fixing a flat-tire” with former shop-lead Reed (@reedonwheels) is happening Saturday, February 10th at 6:30pm! We’re asking for a sliding-scale donation day of the class, and classes are free for Bikery volunteers!
